Jump Rope for Heart

August 18, 2008

What a great way for the P-6 students to finish off the week - an afternoon of skipping. The groups were made up of all ages and many different types of skipping were completed.

ART Weaving Scarves

August 18, 2008

Our scarves are now finished and are absolutely marvelous. We made looms from egg cartons and used various threads to make the scarves. More photos will be posted on our Art page when the slide show is remade into a smaller size.

ART

July 23, 2008

[

We started with a basic weave and as some of the children had done paper weaving they tried alternative cuts to see what would happen. After seeing other childrens’ end results they had another go to see if they could achieve the desired effects.

Our next weaving activity is weaving a scarf on an egg-carton loom. At the moment we are setting up the looms and we will have some photos when we get started with the weaving.

Vegetable Garden

The students were divided into 5 groups and planted vegetable seeds into trays and put them in the hot house. Thankfully  3 local  students came during the school holidays to water the seedlings. The progress of the vegetables will be shown on this page.

 Term 3

We will be involved in activities to show how We Can Help Save the Earth.

This Term has flown and we have much to complete and put on our site. Reports have been written so we will have time to show our work (or some of it). Maybe next term will be normal!

About Patch

Patch is a webkinz toy that started his virtual life with the Year 3 & 4 in 2007. As that grade received a new toy from their Canadian pen pals Patch, (a Dalmation), came to visit the Yr 3 students this term. He is going on home visits with the children every Wednesday and on weekends.

Children learnt the basics of weaving and came up with these wonderful examples.

a normal week

June 4, 2008

(Although I am not sure that we ever have a “normal week” or “normal day” for that matter. There always seems to be something that needs to be taken into consideration).

The Year 3 class has 19 students, 13 boys and 6 girls.

Literacy reading activities are set every day with 5 groups. Each group has an activity to complete while 1 group is with the me and we change to a second activity and a new group with me. Some groups only see me once or twice a week and others see me three times. The activities that groups are involved with include reading books alone and to each other, computer programmes (spelling and reading), games (Boggle, Scrabble, Monopoly) reading comprehension cards and sheet and Literacy Circles (just started with 1 group).

I try to relate my reading focus to the writing focus and the children write about or use the aspects I am trying to reinforce. We also have the computer room for one of the writing sessions and we usually write up work that the kids have written and save them to their own individual folders.

After recess we have Numeracy. Twice a week I try to have game sessions where they get to practise what we have been covering on the other three days. Sometimes we work in ability groups, teacher chosen groups and we also work in friendship groups.

Class Activities for May

Dave and Niall from the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority visited our grade on Friday 2nd May. Their entertaining questions and activities had the students  enthusiastically learning about the pollutants that enter our water catchments.

 Mothers Day Photostories

After bringing along photos and a song that their mother liked the kids have completed their projects. Although I would have liked to have included both voice and music the time frame only allowed for one or the other. However I am sure the mothers will be pleased with the results.

Our First Post

April 30, 2008

Hi. This is my introduction to producing a blog. I hope to include some of the great work that my grade 3 students are involved in this term. We are hoping that some schools from other areas are prepared to share what they are doing with us.
